MR. CHOY LOUNGE & BAR, KHAN MARKET
In line to the already existing dim sum cafe Mr. Choy (designed by us in May 2015), the New Mr. Choy dim sum bar follows the inspiration of 70’s Hong Kong fusing together a nostalgic pop-retro style with a contemporary design, inspiring creative and burgeoning area for the arts highlights Hong Kong’s richness of local culture blend of Western modernization and Eastern traditions that celebrates Hong Kong, both past and present. The first floor has imagery and artwork dedicated to cultural ethos of Hong Kong-Chinese lanterns, Iron and glass work, antique mirrors, which are juxtaposed to create beautiful patterns and reflections.
A beautifully painted brick wall adorns the double height space with elegant calligraphy and Asian floral themes of umbrellas and floral motifs. This wall creates the perfect backdrop to the lounge/bar on the second floor. Use of antique mirror, brick and textured paint create the predominant material palette for this section. The outdoor seating is set with a bird's eye view of khan market, with casual bench seating and an artificial green wall set against the textured painted surfaces. The Façade of the restaurant, composed of a combination of natural and artificial greenery offset by the signage in distressed wooden planks, reflects the presence of the absence.
